Boko Haram: Military Re-open Cattle Market In Buni Yadi

The Military on Friday re-opened the famous Cattle Market in Buni Yadi, Yobe State after two years of closure due to Boko Haram security challenges.
Brigadier General Clement Apere, the Commander, 27 Task Force Brigade, Buni Yadi, announced the re-opening at a news conference in Buni Yadi.
Apere said after meeting with the state, local government authorities and community leaders, it was
agreed that the market should be re-opened for commercial activities.
Apere, represented by Lieutenant George Okupe, the Brigade’s Public Relations Officer, said the brigade was considering re-opening all the markets closed in the wake of security challenges to boost commerce in the areas.
He said guidelines had been mapped out for movements and operations within the market and called for cooperation from the community.
Hon. Lawan Bulama (Gujba State Constituency), who represented the state government, urged the community to cooperate with the security operatives to rebuild a prosperous economy.
“You should see the re-opening of the market as an opportunity to economic rehabilitation,” Bulama said.
Alhaji Kyari Baterama, the Chairman of Gujba Local Government Council, charged members of the community to expose strange and suspicious movements in the area.
Baterama said: “You should not allow anybody to destroy this opportunity provided for you to rebuild your economy.
“You are advised to jealously guard the re-opening of the market and the opportunities provided therein.”
The cattle market was a hub of economic activities with people coming from across the country to trade.
