7 Nigerians Who Have Been Nominated For A Grammy Awards (Photos)
The Grammy awards or the Grammys is one of the biggest music awards ever.
It is an honour awarded by The Recording Academy to recognise outstanding achievement in the mainly English-language music industry. Since it’s debut in 1958, the award show has recognised musicians from all over the world through different categories.Here are the Nigerians who have been nominated for the award:
1. King Sunny Ade
His 1983 album earned him his first Grammy Award nomination in the folk/ethnic music category and since then, KSA has been nominated one time more in 1988. He, however, hasn’t won one.Image: CityPeopleMag
2. Kevin Olusola
Kevin Olusola is one fifth of the popular vocal band, Pentatonix. In 2015, they won a Grammy in the “Best Arrangement, Instrumental or a cappella” category for their song “Daft Punk”kevinolusola.com
3. Sade Adu

Femi Anikulapo Kuti is the eldest son of Fela Anikulapo Kuti. He has been nominated for a Grammy award four times in the world music category in 2003, 2010, 2012 and 2013 but has never won.Image: StarGist
5. Chamillionaire
Born as Hakeem Rasaki to a Nigerian father and an African American mother, Chamillionaire has been nominated for a grammy twice in 2007 for the same song ‘Riddin’. He won the Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group that year.Image: iHeart
6. Sikiru Adepoju
Sikiru Adepoju is a percussionist and recording artist from Nigeria, primarily in the genres of traditional African music and world music. He was as part of Planet Drum, whose title album won the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary World Music Album in 1991. 7. Seal
