Nigerian Engineers Will Soon Be Certified To Practice In 48 Nations – COREN President

The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria on Thursday said certified engineers from Nigeria would soon be allowed to practice in 48 countries across the globe.
Kashim Ali, the President of COREN, disclosed while speaking with newsmen in Katsina.
Ali said the development was part of efforts to make the profession meet international standard.
Ali said such engineers would soon be accepted in Asian and Pacific nations, including China, Malaysia, India, South Korea, Australia and Indonesia.
He further disclosed that these nations were blessed with huge economies with vast developments taking place there.
He said accepting engineers from Nigeria to practice would create opportunities for the professionals in the country.
The COREN president said such acceptance would put the nation’s engineers in good stead and create opportunity for them “and for their children who are yet to join the engineering profession”.
He said that to achieve this, the organisation had intensified its continuous education scheme for its members to meet up with the global trend.
Ali, however, said one big challenge the organisation was currently facing was the problem of quacks who had been parading themselves as engineers.
He said the issue of building collapse was mostly caused by those quacks, who were not certified as engineers “but are only out to make quick money”.
He said records had shown that 99.9 per cent of those involved in building collapses in the country were not COREN members, adding: “Engineering should be done by engineers.”
