Guinness Nigeria and FRSC flag off “Ember Months” anti-drink driving campaign

Leading manufacturer and Nigeria’s only total alcohol beverage company, Guinness Nigeria Plc, has partnered with the Federal Roads Safety Commission to flag off the 2016 Ember Months ‘Drink Drive’ public awareness campaign, which is aimed at enlightening the public on the harmful consequences of alcohol abuse.

Speaking at the flag-off of this year’s ember months responsible drinking campaign which took place at the Ketu Motor Park in Lagos, Managing Director/CEO, Guinness Nigeria Plc, Mr. Peter Ndegwa disclosed that the partnership between Guinness Nigeria and FRSC, which has lasted over a decade, has blossomed into an impactful platform, making it possible for both parties to jointly deliver ember months campaigns that annually reach millions of Nigerians.
“Through our ember months campaigns, we aim to play a part in helping consumers make the right choices. The message we deliver to consumers through our annual
campaigns is consistent with our values at Guinness Nigeria. Consumers are at the heart of everything we do as an organisation and are the basis for our success. We are therefore genuinely concerned when we see consumers put themselves at risk through practices like drink driving. The timing of this campaign takes into cognisance the high frequency of vehicular movement during ember months, particularly during the Christmas season. Historically, the occurrence of road accidents also increases during ember months. This campaign therefore aims to help prevent alcohol-related accidents this season,” Ndegwa said.

Ndegwa also commended the FRSC for their critical role they play in helping to reduce accidents on the nation’s highways. "I would like to specially thank the FRSC for their partnership through the years and for the good work they do every day to ensure the safety of road users in Nigeria. As a company, we are proud of the impact we will be able to make through our partnership with the FRSC and other stakeholders this season. I’m positive that our collective actions will help promote the culture of responsible drinking and ensure the safety of Nigerians traveling to various destinations,” he enthused.
“Whatever you do this season, please do NOT drink and drive. When you go out in a group to have fun, designate someone to drive and that person should not drink. If you are going out alone, arrange for taxi to take you home after you have had some drink. I urge everyone to drink responsibly and also act as ambassadors of responsible drinking during this season and beyond,” Ndegwa pleaded.
On his part, Corps Commander, Lagos Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr. Hyginus Omeje commended Guinness Nigeria Plc for sustaining this giant stride for the past nine years, while taking into cognizance the fact that road safety is a shared responsibility.

Speaking on the theme of this year’s campaign, “Crash the crash: Speed kills”, Omeje noted that driving under the influence was an underlying factor in some of the road traffic crashes recorded. Furthermore, he explained that the breathalyzers Guinness Nigeria donated to the FRSC last year have helped them carry out extensive sobriety tests by randomly breathalyzing drivers within the state.
"As we officially flag off this year’s ember months road safety responsible drinking campaign, I charge everyone to re-direct their minds toward good road use by obeying all rules and regulations. It is our collective responsibility to eradicate or reduce the ever increasing volume of road crashes on our roads," he warned.

The event had representatives from the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in attendance.

Guinness Nigeria has consistently demonstrated its strong commitment to promoting the responsible consumption of alcohol as part of a healthy, balanced lifestyle, through its various Responsible Drinking initiatives. These include a  special training programmes for Bartenders (called the Master Bar Academy)  which has trained  1000 bartenders across Nigeria on responsible retailing, , an age verification initiative, which will helps ensure that alcohol is not sold to underage persons and a radio programme – “Drink Diaries” which highlights the dangers of alcohol abuse. Only recently, Guinness Nigeria entered into a partnership with the National Youth Service Corp to train corps members as ambassadors of responsible drinking in their various communities as part of their service to the nation.

John Legend writes an open letter to US President Obama

Singer John Legend  wrote an open letter to President Barack Obama begging him “to bring justice to the thousands of families of non-violent drug offenders” before he leaves office because he wasn't sure the Trump administration would do anything about it. Read his letter below:

“First of all, I would like to thank you for your friendship and for your outstanding service to our country,” the singer wrote in the letter, published by Rolling Stone. “I’m particularly grateful for the concrete steps your administration has taken to provide opportunities to tens of millions of young people and families who have been impacted by mass incarceration.”
He expressed fear whether or not the Trump administration “will maintain this progress.”
He added:
“It is unclear what their priorities will be and when families can expect justice.”  According to a report published by the Pew Research Center on Dec. 9, Obama “has granted clemency to more people convicted of federal crimes than any chief executive in nearly 50 years.” As of Nov. 30, he’s “granted clemency to 1,093 individuals (the vast majority convicted of drug-related offenses).” In his letter, Legend later urged Obama “to consider issuing categorical commutations to bring an end to the injustice that remains in our federal sentencing schemes.”
His concluded by writing:
“Just as George W. Bush urged you to proactively address clemency on your way to your first inauguration in 2009, I am asking you to bring justice to thousands of families by granting as many clemencies as possible before you leave office.”  He added that..
“approximately 5,000 individuals are serving sentences based on prejudiced laws which punished drug crimes involving crack cocaine more severely than crimes involving powder cocaine. Rectifying these crack-powder disparities would not only correct the mistakes of the past, but could save taxpayers just over $150 million per year and keep with public sentiment about the over-incarceration and criminalization of drug crimes.”

MMM founder, Sergey Mavrodi writes FG on benefits of scheme

MMM Founder, Sergey Mavrodi has allegedly written an open letter to the Federal Government of Nigeria explaining the benefits of the scheme. The letter was displayed on the page of all participants of the Scheme.

Read below:
Open Letter from Sergey Mavrodi to the Nigerian Authorities
Honorable authorities,
So far MMM has come under a constant attack from you. In this regard, I would like to ask you a few simple questions. Since you are concerned with the interests of millions of your fellow citizens, I hope that  you would be so kind to answer them.
What are you trying to get? Do you want the MMM System to collapse and millions of
people to suffer? Who will support them then if now MMM is their only means of livelihood? Will you? You even don’t pay wages to people? Or might you not care about them? Might you be using a trendy topic to make a good name for yourselves?
What will you say to a mother who will have no money to buy food for her child? Will you let her child die for the sake of the higher interests of the economy?
You say that MMM is a scam. What is the scam here, if all members are warned in advance about all the risks, the possible and impossible ones? They know there are no investments at all. The warning is a red text on a yellow background placed on most prominent place of the website.
You say that MMM is bad. Why? Yes, it produces nothing, but nothing gets out of the country either. The money is just redistributed among the citizens of Nigeria. It gets from those who are richer to poorer ones, in this way restoring social justice. What”s wrong with that?
You have repeatedly stated that “it should be investigated!.. researched!..” It means you know nothing about this System yet; you even haven’t understood how it works. Isn’t it completely irresponsible of you to make all these allegations and play with the lives of millions of ordinary people?
And finally. If you know what is right for people, why is the life so bad in the country?
Sincerely yours,
Sergey Mavrodi
P.S. As for your statement that “everything will collapse soon”. The system has been working in Nigeria for a year, and according to your estimates, the total number of members now is  about 3 million people. In Nigeria the population is approximately 195 million. Can you calculate? Will it be “soon”? :-))

She Brought Another Man's Pregnancy Into My Home

Hello Laila Ijeoma. Please help me. I am a very sad and confused man and I don't know what to do. I am engaged to a woman that i have dated for about 7 months now and i am planning to marry her latest by February 2017.

We have concluded plans to meet her people by this Christmas and she has already met my people. She is in her final year at the university but she comes over to my place every weekend and goes back to school on Monday mornings. She was initially insisting on no sex before marriage but we do romance and cuddle but she gave in to me sexually after i
proposed on October 2nd.
Around the first week of November, She confided in me that she hasn't seen her monthly cycle for sometime so I suggested that we head to a hospital for tests but she said that it was unnecessary that she is suspecting that she is pregnant that instead of wasting money on hospital tests that she will buy a pregnancy test strip for N50 at the chemist opposite my house.
I agreed and gave her N100 to buy two strips since she said that the test needs to be done twice to be sure that the results are accurate as the strips could falter atimes. She bought the strips and we waited till the next day because the direction said that it works best on early morning urine.
The test showed that she was indeed pregnant and my joy knew no bounds. She went back to school and our lives continued normally until last weekend. She usually comes over for the weekend on Saturdays but strange enough, last weekend she called me and told me that she was coming on friday  instead.
when she arrived later in the evening, she was somehow moody and was complaining of not feeling too well. I opted to take her to the hospital but she said that i shouldn't bother that she would be fine, that maybe its the baby. Around 8pm, that same friday, she started bleeding. there was blood everywhere. she sent me to go and buy a pad called ladysept so she can put in her vagina before we go to the hospital.
at that moment, i was in tears, i knew that we have lost the baby. I bought the pad and drove her to the hospital where the doctor confirmed that that the baby has gone bad and was evacuating. I cried my self silly at the hospital as they rushed her into the theater to do D and C. she was sedated and i thought she was going to die. I didn't know what to do.
I thought of what I would tell her family if she dies in my hands. I didn't know that the real shock was coming. when the operation was through, she was wheeled out to the ward where i waited and watched her and prayed that she would wake up from the anesthetic she was given and by the grace of God, she woke up around 2am on Saturday morning.
We cried together once more and i assured her that it is all right. that God will give us another baby. Now imagine my shock when one of the junior doctors came around on the morning ward round on that Saturday morning around 8am and i asked him what may have caused the miscarriage. The doctor told me that it happens atimes dues to many reasons ranging from bad eggs to hormonal imbalances and other numerous factors he mentioned.
while he concluded, he told us that the miscarried foetus was 10 weeks old. The problem is that I only had sex with my her on the first week of October and the incident happened on 8th or 9th of December, so the whole thing didn't add up. if the baby is really mine, then it should be around 8 weeks.
I confronted her there and then and she pleaded with me to keep calm until we got home. I managed to calm my self and paid the bills and we left the hospital that evening. Back home, I queried her and she insisted that she didn't know what happened.
yesterday being Sunday, she went back to the hospital without telling me only for me to find out when my phone rang and it was the senior doctor of the hospital. He told me that my fiancee came to the hospital that morning with complaints and that he wants to assure me that the age reading of fetus is often time inaccurate by up to 2 weeks that I should not worry about the timing.
Honestly Laila, I am confused. i don't know what to believe because this university girls can often times be funny. Please help me post this so that your mature female readers and experienced males can help me analyse this because i smell something fishy.
what if she bribed the senior doctor to say something else to protect the marriage plans? or is it true that the medical readings of babies is often time inaccurate that it can be 2 weeks older or younger. please i need help because I have decided to quit the relationship immediately she leaves my house this morning.
What if she was lying, this is how I would have become one of those men whom their first child isn't theirs. I am really confused and i need explanations. Thank you and please pardon me for any typo in the mail. I am not in the right frame of mind now.

Reigners Church tragedy: "God saved me" How cancelled flight and traffic gridlock saved Ini Edo from attending the church event

But for cancelled flight and traffic gridlock, Nollywood actress Ini Edo would have been at Reigners Bible Church when its roof collapsed, killing dozens of peopl. The Special Assitant on Tourism to Akwa Ibom State Governor took to Instagram to narrate how she escaped death and to condole with families who lost their loved ones in the tragic incident. Read her full post below:

"2 days ago,I was very bitter about the unreliable nature of some of our airlines cancelling flights without prior notice thereby hindering my plans to attend a church service ceremony held in uyo.Now out of determination, I took a flight to calabar with the hope of being in uyo just in time for the service since the journey between calabar and uyo was just about an hour.

The journey ended up taking over 7hrs because of an unexplainable traffic. No accident, good road no hitches just a headlock traffic. Whilst in the car, I started wondering why all my efforts to be at the service was being thwarted... then I got a call, that the entire church building had collapsed during the course of the service .... Once again, God had saved me.

My heart goes out to the families of the departed..may the good Lord grant them the heart to bear the loss. Everyday we see is a blessing..it's not because we are special or better.

It's the exceeding Grace of our Lord Jesus.Iam so humbled and grateful to God for preserving me... Happy thanksgiving....."

Photos: Police uncover fake Trinidad and Tobago embassy in Lagos

The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State Police Command has discovered fake embassy operating in Lagos where many innocent members of the public had been swindled.
The Policemen attached to the squad swooped on them; two Chinese and two Nigerians were apprehended during the raid on their office situated inside an hotel,  Golden Point and Suite, on Duduyemi Street in Ejigbo. The Chinese: Liu Honyang, 47, Sun Xinai, 49; and their Nigerian collaborators, Oriyomi Olawale, 47 and Desmond Chinedu, 25,  conspired and swindled Nigerians who had planned  to travel out of the country to seek greener pastures.
It was gathered that the operatives acted on the intelligence reports received from members of the public about the illicit act of these Chinese using Nigeria citizens as cover.
Our sources revealed that the Policemen lodged in the hotel for two days monitoring their activities before eventual arrest.
After the arrest, some of their victims showed up at the RRS’s Headquarters, recounting how they were duped respectively, hence their deportation from Trinidad and Tobago.
According to one of the victims,   Adekunle Adefuye,
“I met these people (suspects) through one of their agents, Dorcas Slyver. She is a daughter to my brother’s pastor in Abeokuta. I told her my intentions and zeal to travel to United States of America…. After a while, she told me to come to Lagos that she can procure the American visa for me…. On getting to Lagos, she took me to these Chinese where I was told that I should go to Trinidad and Tobago…. They persuaded me to go Trinidad and Tobago that it was easier to secure employment with at least 3,000 dollars as salary.”
He continued;
“Initially, I declined to take their bait, insisting that I preferred America to Trinidad and Tobago (T&T)…. But in the long run, they brainwashed me into agreeing to go to Trinidad and Tobago. It was at this point, I was told that I would pay N1.3 million for the whole process including visa processing and flight fare…. The payment was made in installment. N376,000 for Visa, ticket N850,000, accommodation N39,000 and Visa Fee N33,000, which I obliged and paid all the monies into Dorcas’ GTB Accounts: 0130671906.”

He revealed that he and another person were rounded up immediately they got to Trinidad and Tobago by the country’s immigration officers for coming into the country with fake visas.
"We spent two days underground inside the Police custody. They treated us like criminals trying to enter the country illegally," he added.
"We left Lagos enroute Lome on October 19th, 2016. From Lome to Sao Paulo in Brazil. From there, we moved to Panama where we boarded another plane to Trinidad and Tobago…. On getting to the country, we were arrested by their security operatives accusing us of entering their country with fake visa and documents…. We were locked up for 48 hours before we were deported on October 22nd, 2016 and arrived Nigeria the following day,” he added.
Adefuye stressed, “When we arrived Nigeria, we didn’t let them know we have been deported. They thought possibly we were lucky to have entered the T&T without any challenge.
It was one Good Samaritan that came to our rescue in Trinidad and Tobago, who pleaded for us when they threatened to prosecute us before we were sent back to Nigeria.
On his part, Rasheed Ololade, said that it was same agent, Dorcas Sylver, who persuaded him to go to T&T too, adding that all the money he paid amounted to N1.3M into her account.
“I met Adefuye at their office in Golden Point Hotel and Suites, Ejigbo in Lagos. And we became good friends henceforth…. We were only fortunate to have escaped being jailed in T&T for coming into the country with fake documents and Visas…. They beat hell out of us and starved us for the whole two days before fortune smiled at us. The Police in T and T collected all our belongings including money and threatened to kill us. In fact, they were abusing Nigerians calling us unprinted names…. In fact, we were lucky to have been deported because that country is a junkyard for drug addicts and dealers,” he lamented.
“Most of the Nigerians we met there were barely recognisable, and were high on drugs…. One of them, confided in me that he was struggling to survive by dealing in drug and that he has resorted to fate, since coming home was difficult," he added.
Another victim, Friday Owah, who was at their office when they were arrested, said that he just paid N600,000 after being convinced to jettison his Europe trip for Trinindad & Tobago.
According to him, “I was introduced to them by one man, Mr Oscar. I paid directly to Madam Sun’s GT Bank account…. She promised to secure the visa for me within a space of two weeks. By the time the visa was ready, I was unable to eke-out another N850,000 for flight ticket, which made the T&T visa to get expired…. I went back to see her to help me again for same visa. And she told me to pay another N150, 000. It was after I had made another payment of N150,000 to her account that someone told me they don’t accept stamp visa but only electronic visa is allowed in that country.”
“I went back to explain to her but she denied the information but still insisted that stamp visa is acceptable in that country…. Then, I told her that I was no longer interested in T&T and she should return my money. I came to their office that fateful day to demand for the money when the Rapid Response Squad team came to arrest them,” he added.
Another victim, Lukmon Odeyemi, a footballer by profession, also parted away with N125, 000 for Trinidad and Tobago’s en route visa.
“The lady (Sun Xinai) charged me N400, 000 but I was only able to raise N125,000 to her with the hope of balancing her by month end,” he noted.
In his reaction, Liu Hongyag, one of the arrested suspects, said that he only helped her boss to do paper works and documents.
"We operated as separate entity as travel agency under the company's name, Golden Point Hotel and Tour but our office is located inside the hotel…. Sun Xinai  is my sister,  and she is the director of the travel agency.  I only do paper works and documents for visa procurement…. I don’t know how she secures visa for people. All what I know is that she travels to Abuja and comes back with that stamped visa. I am a phone repairer,” he stressed.
Our source posited that investigation has further revealed that the Trinidad and Tobago’s Embassy has confirmed the Visa fake and the two Chinese agents unknown.
But Sun Xinai, the major suspect, noted that she was unaware that stamped visa for Trindad and Tobago was no longer tenable in that country anymore.
Responding to RRS's visa enquiry, the High Commission of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in its letter dated 7th December, 2016, referenced ABJ: 6/2/3/14, read in part:
"...the Mission can categorically confirm that the individual SUN XINAI who is claiming to be an agent of this Mission is unknown to us…. Furthermore, this Mission does not use the services of an 'agent' in any capacity whatsoever and has never done so in the past either…. With regard to the authenticity of the attached visas, the Mission can also categorically confirm that those visas were not issued at this High Commission and are clearly fraudulent…. Noteworthy too is the fact that in June 2015, this Mission stopped the practice of issuing stamped visas in passports in favour of individual electronic visas issued from our country's capital Port of Spain.”
The letter was signed by Garth Lamsee, Acting High Commissioner
Items recovered from them during the raid were 25 international passports, 10 laptops, screw driver, 5 phones and paper documents.
While confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer of Lagos State, Superintendent of Police, SP Dolapo Badmus, said that Police will not rest on its oars in protecting rights of any individual in the country. She said that the Police are on manhunt for all their agents and canvassers.

"I will also use this medium to advise the public to be wary of visa agents and anyone who wishes to travel out of the country should direct their applications to the Embassies," she added.
All the suspects have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation

When It Rains White People Think Of Farming, Blacks Think Of $ex – Donald Trump

Once again, US business magnate Donald Trump has expressed his deep disgust for Africans by referring to them as lazy fools only good at eating, lovemaking and thuggery. Speaking in Indianapolis, Trump who is also the Presidential elect torch bearer reiterated his promise to deport Africans especially those of South African origin including Trevor Noah who is always dissing him in his jokes.

“African Americans are very lazy. The best they can do is gallivanting around ghettoes, lamenting how they are discriminated. These are the people America doesn’t need. They are the enemies of progress. In general, when it rains white people think of farming and black people just want $ex.
Look at African countries like Kenya for instance, those people are stealing from their own government and go to invest the money in foreign countries. From the government to opposition, they only qualify to be used as a case study whenever bad examples are required. How do you trust even those who have ran away to hide here at the United States hiding behind education?
I hear they abuse me in their blogs but I don’t care because even the internet they are using is ours and we can decide to switch it off from this side. These are people who import everything including matchsticks. In my opinion, most of these African countries ought to be recolonized again for another 100 years because they know nothing about leadership and self governance” Explained Donald Trump bitterly as he illuminated how he plans to reconstruct America and restore its lost glory.
